The Floating Stadium

Located in Marina Bay, Singapore is The Float, a floating mixed use platform with space for a full sized soccer pitch and ample seating for 30,000 people.

Measuring in at a colossal 120 meters in length, and 83 meters in width, The Float is even larger than the Soccer Field at the National Stadium. Better hope someone is ready to fetch the soccer balls out of the water!

In 2010, the platform was transformed into a Stadium which was used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the Summer Youth Olympics.

A number of concerts, exhibitions and sporting events are planned for the future of the platform, until the Singapore Sports Hub at Kallang is completed in 2014.

Construction began in 2006 and was conducted through to completion by construction firm SempCorp Marine. After a 13 month build, from only Steel as it's core material, the platform was finally revealed to the country by the Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong.
